Hercules batteries can’t handle “cold”

I picked up the Hercules extended reach 3/8 ratchet and a Hercules battery.

First, as I was driving away I was wondering why they offered me a 1 year warranty when it’s Hercules and has a 5 year warranty already then was disappointed when I figured out it’s a brushed motor which I didn’t realize and that’s why it doesn’t have the 5 year. I wish I could’ve waited for the new models to come out but I really wanted the benefit of it now. Plus the heads look quite a bit larger on the new ones.

But my real point, I went out to work on the car

And after a short while, upon each trigger pull, the ratchet would run for 2 seconds and stop. When I looked into it online, I read that that can happen when the battery is cold. I came in, warmed it up and it returned to normal functionality.

It was 39 degrees out, which being from New England, I don’t feel like is very cold, and certainly not cold enough to cause it to malfunction.

Is this normal?
