Practicing mantras w/o feeling like a fraud..
I’ve always failed at traditional mantras. Sitting there silently repeating "I am at peace" or "I am enough" just felt like I was lying to myself. My inner critic would immediately hijack it with a sarcastic, "No, you aren't."
I have been doing something new the last 6mos. I record myself just speaking a few raw thoughts and affirmations out loud, and then layered the audio over some deep, cinematic background music.
When I put my headphones on and just straight up listened to my own voice saying the words over that tunes, I feel it completely bypassed my critical filter. Because I wasn't actively forcing the words out of my mouth in real-time, I could actually just receive them.
The music gave it genuine emotional weight, and hearing it from a "third-party" perspective finally let me accept the affirmation without feeling like a total imposter. It’s the first time I’ve actually felt self-compassion instead of just pretending to.
What actually stuck for you guys when traditional methods felt fake? Cheers.
