Five years ago, I promised my daughter that when she was 10 I would take her to climb a mountain. Where should we go?

When I returned from backpacking in Colorado, she declared “I want to climb a mountain!” And I responded that when she was 10 I would take her to a big mountain.

She is 10 tomorrow and she hasn’t forgotten (nor would I want her to). I now have a year to keep my promise.

I’m looking at the Smokys as a good place that is within driving distance from where we live in Indianapolis. I would like us to camp before and after but we could drive to a decent hike to a summit. It needs to feel like she has accomplished something, but she is a petit almost 10 year old who will have limits.

Where should we go?
