If god loves us then he should intervene and save us rather than letting us be tortured for eternity

Imagine this analogy

If a loving father finds out his son is going to jump off a building to end it all, should he respect his free will and let him die or should he run to save him? I don't think any loving parent would want their son to die as it is also their responsibility to keep the child safe

This is no different from god letting athiests be tortured in hell forever
