New Car Weight?
Has anybody noticed issues regarding the weight of new cars, primarily EVs and PHEVs?
My elderly mother bought a new PHEV, and it needs new tyres after 6,000 km.
I was kind of shocked, so I looked up the specs and the new car is 400 kg heavier than her previous traditional petrol version of the same car.
It makes sense to me as 400 kg is a big weight, and I guess driving around with four 16 stone people would wear out your tyres pretty fast.
I've also heard a few neighbours complaining about the tarmac in their driveways suffering more wear and tear due to heavier vehicles.
It just makes me wonder further about the economic and environmental credentials of EVs and PHEVs if they are burning through tyres at three times the speed of traditional cars.
Has anybody had similar experiences?
