Gothic Games, pls try them
Okay, listen. If you spend your time playing RPGs, especially open-world games, and you’ve never tried Gothic or Gothic II, you’re honestly missing something special. I’m not saying they’re perfect. They’re not. They’re old. The controls feel weird at first. Combat can feel clunky until you understand it. There’s no glowing arrow telling you exactly where to go all the time. But that’s part of why they’re so good. These games were made by Piranha Bytes, and they didn’t design them to constantly impress you. They built a world and dropped you into it. You start as nobody. Weak. Broke. Not respected. If something is stronger than you, it stays stronger than you. Nothing scales to make you feel important. When you finally get stronger, it feels earned. You remember the enemies that destroyed you early on. You come back later and beat them. That feeling is real. NPCs live their lives. They work, sleep, react if you steal, react if you act suspicious. The world doesn’t revolve around you. You have to find your place in it. It’s not flashy. It’s not cinematic. It’s grounded and rough around the edges. And yeah, the first few hours can be hard. But if you push through that phase, something clicks. Now one more thing: If this post sounds well-written in English, that’s not because I’m pretending to be someone I’m not. I grew up in East Germany and never really had the chance to develop strong English skills. I’m using AI just to translate what I genuinely feel about these games so people internationally can understand me. The passion behind this is mine. The experience is mine. I just don’t want language to be the barrier. I’m not promoting anything. I don’t gain anything if you play it. I just honestly believe Gothic 1 and 2 are the kind of RPGs that remind you why you fell in love with RPGs in the first place. Try them with an open mind. Worst case? They’re not for you. Best case? You discover something special.
I just wish atleast someone can enjoy this awesome Games, cause they are worth It.
