Does it get better?
I feel like I blinked and suddenly I'm 36 and my life is not going how I wanted it to go. I am still single while pretty much every one of my friends is married/in a relationship and have or are planning for children. I desperately want to find my person and get married (TBD on kids) but I just haven't met my person yet. As my dating pool wasn't very big to begin with (I'm overweight and just not very attractive) and continues to shrink, I am seriously doubting I ever will.
My friends all seem to be too busy for me these days. After COVID, my social circle shrunk A LOT so now I am down to one group of friends who I love very deeply but don't get to see very often. I try to make plans, both further out and last minute, with the whole group and individually/smaller groups and it's gotten so difficult to get anyone to commit that I barely even feel like making the effort anymore.
I am successful in so many ways- I make great money and continue to advance in my career, I travel to cool places, I have creative hobbies. I am going to buy property next year. I started a weight loss journey recently.
I lead a full life and I'm comfortable spending time on my own and doing the things I want to do on my own, but I am also so so so tired of being no one's priority. I truly feel like my best days are behind me in my 20s; my 30s have been a disaster and I feel like it's only downhill from here.
For anyone who has felt like this or been in my position- does it get better? What helped you to either accept or improve your life? How have you gone about making friends, dating, improving your life at this stage?
