Big 3 weight 11-12lbs is a 30lb total pack weight (with food and water) even possible? (sleeping bag, pad, backpack, tent, liner)
Hi all,
Sorry for blowing up the chat but I am entering the event horizon where I will be leaving for the trail in a matter of days so things are ofc going a little sideways LOL!
Long version:
I finally managed to get things into my pack after my sleeping bag tradeout issue (went from 35F synthetic to a 15F gooz feath and it destroyed my pack volume somehow). However now the weight of my pack with all my food but no water is hitting about 36lbs. I feel like this is less than ideal I am 5ft5" and maybe 140lbs right now so looking for some advice (I don't want to post a highly specific lighterpack for privacy reasons).
My big three (pack, tent, sleeping pad, liner) are ~12lbs I really don't want to alter these atm because they are tried and true and do not hurt my back even after many multi night trips, but I want to know if a big three at that weight means some limitations on what I should aim for as a total pack weight.
Food right now looks like its coming in a 5lbs (7 total and bear can is costing 2), I think I might have too much food but some stuff will deplete over time like milk powder and stone ground oats that I LOVE.
That means that ~17lbs are coming from other stuff 1.5lbs for cooking set up including gas means yeah about 15lbs are coming from "other" just wondering if that seems outrageously high?
Summary:
Big 3 -> 12lbs
Cooking ->1.5lbs
Food plus Bear can ->7lbs
Everything else -> 15lbs
Question: Should I focus on cutting out everything else or is 15lbs a reasonable number for all clothes, toiletry, "tech" etc?
It should be noted I use a flipphone, so I am relying on AWOL guide/ATC maps which does I guess add a little weight? But then I do not have a battery pack or charge items beyond a tiny charge stick that weighs effectively nothing for emergency.
Thanks, trying to decide if I really need to go through everything again all day tomorrow to try and sus this out or if its just that my gear isn't ultralight and I use paper navigation so I should give up trying to get it better than 35-40lbs with all food and water.
Thoughts and prayers for ya girl.
