Is the Co-Signer Legally Liable for unpaid rent?

Location: Vermont.

I signed a lease with my now ex with our parents co-signing. My ex is refusing to pay rent for the apartment because he “doesn’t have a job”. Does this mean the rent should be their co-signing parent is liable for the rent. If their parent refuses to pay rent, what are my options?
