How religious is The Stand?

I was feeling really proud to have gotten almost 50% through The Stand when I met Mother Abigail.

I don’t like reading anything remotely Christian and cringe every time this woman talks. I read to escape reality, and the Christian church has harmed me (not to mention the ever-threat of Christian nationalism always present in the news). I didn’t like Desperation for this reason.

Does it get better for people who don’t like Christianity? I’m hesitant to quit the book when I’ve come this far.
