HSIE teachers — when you're making a worksheet, do you think in outcome codes or topic names? [New Teacher, NSW]
I teach Stage 2 and I'm trying to get my head around the new HSIE K-6 (2024) syllabus structure for planning resources.
For Maths, each outcome code maps to something specific I'd actually plan a lesson around — like MA3-RQF-01 is literally "compares and orders fractions." Easy.
But for HSIE, HS2-HIS-01 covers everything — Mesoamerica, navigation, Sydney Cove, all under one outcome. When I'm looking for or making a worksheet, I don't think "I need a HS2-HIS-01 worksheet." I think "I need something on the First Fleet for my Year 3s."
For those of you teaching HSIE (or prepping for 2027), when you plan a worksheet or search for resources, which level do you actually work from?
- The outcome code (HS2-HIS-01) — mainly for programming/reporting?
- The content heading ("Sydney Cove penal settlement") — the unit/term topic?
- The content points ("Describe the experiences of men, women and children on the First Fleet") — individual lesson stuff?
- Something else — like your own unit names?
Trying to organise my resources properly and curious how others think about it as I'm new!
