Hello friends,

This update is a ground-up rebuild of the game with major overhauls and improvements to the base game and the creator system. New mechanics, new goals, and a game that finally rewards thinking over speed. This is phase 1 of 2 of a major update. Please have a try and tell me what you think.

As always, thank you for playing Jigzle. See you in the next update.

# New Features

**Island Mechanic**

* Pieces now connect directly to each other, forming islands that move and rotate as one
* Flip pieces to reveal connection points on the other side

*Dev comment:* I set out to build an arcade jigsaw puzzle but unintentionally created a tangram. With the new island mechanic, the game is now closer to a traditional jigsaw puzzle: a spatial puzzle instead of a pure matching game.

**Action System**

* Every move now costs an action, so plan carefully. Run out and the game is over

*Dev comment:* The previous goal was speed: solve as fast as possible. However, that created shallow gameplay. The new goal is efficiency: solve the puzzle in as few actions as possible. Combined with the island mechanic, the game now forces spatial reasoning, memory, and planning ahead if you want to hit 3 stars. Mastery requires practice.

**Game Modes**

* 4 game modes to master: Standard, Rotation, Scale, and Jigzle
* Rebalanced puzzle difficulty across all game modes and puzzle sizes

*Dev comment:* The namesake "Jigzle" mode was always meant to replicate a real jigsaw puzzle, with a piece pile causing visual chaos. The inclusion of the island mechanic has made this mode very difficult and potentially unfun. The visual chaos is particularly bad now due to limited screen space. The storage box has been elevated and is now necessary for completion. I will be monitoring the completion rate. Please give me your feedback on how it feels.

**Daily Challenges**

* Daily challenges now rotate across game modes
* "Jigzle" mode scheduled every Sunday

*Dev comment:* I noticed returning players are more engaged with daily challenges than the campaign's linear progression. This confirmed that speed was a shallow goal and the piece pile was objectively more engaging than what the rest of the game had to offer. However, Jigzle mode at higher piece counts suffers from lower engagement and completion rates. The visual clutter on a limited screen turns spatial reasoning into frustrating visual searching. Other game modes will now rotate through dailies, with Jigzle mode fixed to every Sunday to promote variety and a range of challenge.

**Tutorial**

* First-time players get a guided intro teaching flip mechanics and island building
* Existing players will also be presented with a tutorial
* Reworked the new player experience. New players are navigated to the game first instead of the menu

**Leaderboard**

* Top 50 players are now posted on each daily and community challenge
* Persistent campaign leaderboards with per-puzzle rankings filtered by difficulty and game mode, ranked by fewest actions first

# Improvements

* Browse campaign puzzles by size (Small, Medium, Large, XL) with a new tabbed layout
* Improved campaign screen loading time; only puzzles for the selected size are loaded at a time
* Added Retry button on result screen
* New piece feeding system: Easy difficulty now feeds only when you place a piece, Normal auto-feeds every 15s, Hard pushes new pieces every 12s with more on the board
* Heart Hunt is now a permanent rare event
* Access settings directly from the pause menu during gameplay
* Rebalanced game economy
* New splash videos
* Valentine's Event theme reverted to default

# Bug Fixes

* Fixed daily challenge schedule not rotating correctly
* Fixed creator drafts not clearing after publishing
* Fixed daily challenge completions not tracking set achievements properly
* Fixed community challenge rewards counter not updating after completion
* Fixed players without a Snoovatar showing an empty avatar
