HELP // Project Management Written Event Questions
Hi! I am in some urgent need of questions being answered. I come from a first-year with only five kids that even qualified for SCDC which is tomorrow, so I was hoping I could clear up some final confusion I had.
I'm competing in a written event, and as per my guidelines I am required to bring two hard copies of my project to state. Does this mean my verbal judges will use them, or will I actually be physically handing it in for a grade to the written judges and my verbal judges will not have them?
Am I allowed notecards for my verbal presentation? I know realistically it isn't the most professional, but I was planning on brining like 5-6 notecards with bullet points to ensure I hit every point over my project.
How much time should I actually leave for questions? My project is admittedly beefy. I have legislative development, created statewide infrastructure, and partnered with a national organization. I planned on 2 minutes for questions since I've timed my script to be roughly 11 minutes. Leaving me 2 minutes for set-up and introductions before I get into my script. From my research (...again, first-year chapter and member so I have virtually no resources besides outdated videos and vague guidelines) most projects leave like a minute to forty seconds for questions? I genuinely don't understand how that would be effective so if two minutes is abnormal or fine, PLEASE let me know because I have been overthinking this for a fat minute.
In terms of my actual presentation, I have a brochure, business card, and a Canva with slides that have graphics, more information, and additional resources that I'm going to click through as I talk. I opted for the slides because I've seen several judges or informed members say trifolds generally are visually distracting or unprofessional. Am I lacking in terms of physical accessories? My project is related to mental health, so I couldn't really include any props unfortunately.
Lastly, how are presentations normally given? I was planning on sitting across from the judge, but I have no clue where to put my laptop or if it'll hook up to a smartboard or what. I'm competing at Indiana SCDC, so if anyone here is seasoned in that and knows how they operate in terms of how I can effectively use my time I would super appreciate it. I saw a video and it seemed like they were just sitting at a table across from the judge with the laptop to the side--is this what I should expect?
Thanks so much in advance!
