I'm trying to make my short story less than 3k words for my school's magazine!

Hello! I'm a college student, and I'm sad that I just thought of asking for help on reddit til now, but here I am! The deadline is March 1st for my college's magazine for undergrads! They allow many things and one of them is Fiction Writing, as long as it's less than 3k words and MLA formatting, but I unfortunately have written a work that's over 644 words above the limit. Which is why I'm requesting some help and also critiques! Please rip and shred into my work! Ask any questions you need and any advice A Sadly I don't have a title for this, the only title I have is "[School's Magazine Name] Short Story", so apologies for that... I'll try to think of one soon!

I want to give some warnings! My story has abuse in it as well as a child's death at the very end. I don't care about spoilers, so I'm going to be blunt: The MC (who's a child) dies at the end, so be warned! Plus, she's dealing with an abusive mother as well
