Learning in a coffee shop
So today o took my kids to a coffee shop for a hot chocolate and cake but whilst there my daughter noticed a trans female sat in the corner and said dad why is that man wearing a dress is he ok.
I said that’s not a man she’s a woman who just wants to be seen for who she is and it’s incredibly brave of her to live the way that she wants to. She heard me explaining to my daughters she got up and walked out I felt awful as I thought she was upset. But as we left and went to pay they said the trans girl had paid and said to thank you. All afternoon my girls were asking questions about this girl and then said they wanted to learn more and asked does that mean she’s gay I explained it didn’t as trans gender is different to sexual orientation. It was nice to have them asking questions about it and being so kind in the way they spoke about it. Makes me smile as they are still not aware of my transition beginning so it’s a weight off my mind that when the time comes it appears they will be ok
