Help me like this game

I've started over three times thinking I just wasn't understanding the game. I've gotten to the point - and past - of having Yasuke join the game as a partner. But I just don't see the story continuity. Part of the problem for me is the quest log. It seems like every time I lol someone's I get a whole new quest line that I don't understand the purpose of. I hated it inn Mirage too but at least I could follow that one. Just absolutely none of this game is doing it for me. And I spent hundreds of hours on Valhalla alone, not to mention Odyssey ands origins.

Someone tell me by what magic I can love this one as much???
