Why is Trumpism conflated with conservatism?

A lot of good commenters here do not view Trump and those around him as conservative. However, there's a clear correlation between the two coalitions, as made evident by the existence of r/Conservative, innumerable online discussions, conservative voices and leaders supporting Trump, etc.
