How to protect my mental health?

TLDR: My husband pulled our daughter toward the bedroom and later denied it, saying he didn’t realize what he was doing. After therapy, he said he struggles with dissociation from childhood trauma. Then we got into an exhausting debate where he argued that fast food can be “healthy” because calories are what matter. I’m feeling confused and starting to question my own perception of events. Looking for support from anyone who’s experienced something similar.

Im feeling really disoriented after a convo with my husband. Today, our daughter used a chair to grab a snack in the pantry. He said what she did was wrong held her arm gently and was pushing her towards her bedroom which to me looked like he was going to put her in time out. I know I shouldnt do this, but I stopped him and said I wanted to encourage her to be independent and rather than punish her for grabbing food on her own we should explain it’s okay to get food but it’s just not the right time for a snack. (9 am right after breakfast). When I washed him not to punish her he said he wasn’t going to. But I saw him pulling her towards her room. Then he said he was taking her to grab the snack and put it back, but the snack was already in the pantry. When I asked again why was he pulling her, he said “I don’t know”

Later, he went to therapy, and when he came back, he said it was a good session. The therapist was working on his childhood trauma, and he said that’s connected to his dissociation… times when he just “checks out” during conversations. I asked him what dissociation meant, and he explained it as losing focus in the middle of talks. I told him I never really noticed that with us, but he said the therapy is all about processing his past first, so he can handle things better in our marriage. I then mentioned that he should have brought up what happened today, because I was really clear in asking him not to punish her, but he said he didn’t realize he was doing it. He dismissed me.

After that, he asked what I wanted for lunch, since his dad was bringing Taco Bell. I had said earlier that I didn’t want anything, but he asked again. I declined, saying Taco Bell wasn’t healthy. He argued that health is relative that you could eat 1,000 calories of donuts and still be okay if you hit your calorie target. I told him, “are you seriously arguing that Taco Bell is healthy?” He replied that food is just thermodynamics(calories)and I said, but you need nutrients! He said if I took vitamins separately, I’d be fine. At that point, I just told him I couldn’t continue this conversation, because it was exhausting to argue that Taco Bell is healthy.

Im doubting my own perception, ruminating his comments, did I understand anything wrong? I feel a need for external validation. I’m tired emotionally, paranoid. My body feels the tension.

Anyone else?
