Will the role of college interviews change in an era of AI?

Discussion

My daughter had a teacher go to her advisor (the head of the department) because he thought she'd had AI write her essay. Her advisor told him no, she just writes that well. (This was at the beginning of the semester with a new teacher.)

My kids know I'd tan their hides (not literally) if they cheated like that (and my daughter hates AI for valid reasons) so I know they wouldn't. I suspect there are probably a lot of AI checkers, however, that return false positives as often as not.

So I'm wondering if the purpose of interviews may change in the coming years from getting to know an applicant's personality to sussing out if they really could have written their essays without help. Kinda like what happened with my daughter -- her advisory knew she wrote that well so she was able to reassure the other teacher that she hadn't cheated.

I dunno; just a thought I had as I wait for my son's decisions to come in.
