Insult to Injury
I was going to come here to share with the subreddit some very concerning things that chatgpt had to say tonight but then I saw all the political affiliation drama that I hadn't been aware of. Well. Needless to say I canceled my subscription.
But before I move on I wanted to let you all know that chatgpt hugely overstepped in a conversation with me, it was honestly shocking. I used the program mostly to track my progress in the gym. I track workouts and PRs and I use it to track nutrition like calories and macros. Long story short, chat tried to tell me to stop eating tonight.
I was stunned honestly. I could not believe it would give me such a personal sounding opinion framed as advice. It even told me to not be emotional about it. Yall. I lost my shit. All I had asked it to do was tally up my protein and calories for the day because I've been sick this week and I've been trying to not undereat. I was at 1500ish calories and 80g of protein. I asked it to tally up my totals if I added a protein shake. That's when it told me to pause and not take such emotional steps before reconsidering. Then it tried to educate me on eating when hungry. I could not fucking believe what I was reading. It was especially hard for me to read because I had shared in the past that I had an ED and would over restrict. It tanked my metabolism and I've been hard at work in the gym for a long time now overcoming that. Having this program tell me to reconsider eating because it would be an emotional decision not in line with my goals was WILD.
I reacted super negatively and pointed out that actually I'm way under my caloric and protein goals for the day and if protein synthesis worked this way, I would be better off having 3 shakes tbh. I told it that this kind of input from chatgpt was extremely inappropriate and reckless. It then doubled down and told me it was okay if I was reckless with calories once in a while. It felt like someone was messing me with me, truly.
I exported my data so I have all my workout progress and I'll maybe give Claude a try. But wow what a reminder to not lean on AI as a support, I will be careful with what personal info I share in the future.
Has anyone else has similar experiences?
Truth be told chatgpt has been very useful and accurate up until this point for me. I'm not new to nutrition or the gym by any means, I'm a former power lifter and nutrition has been a hobby and interest for me for nearly 2 decades. I just used it as a tracking tool. I'm blown away by the "feedback" it gave tonight. It had not done that before.
