hey everybody I took a detour with some editing projects this weekend and I got really fixated on the idea of a Crystal Skull/Dial of Destiny "hybrid" cut that turned both movies into one singular 2 hour movie - or as close to 2 hours as possible. It was a fun side project that utilized as it's base two previous edits for both Crystal Skull and Dial that I had done over the last 2 years and as such it actually only took me about the weekend to put together a rough cut of it for screening with my edit producer girlfriend sometime this coming week.

I just wanted to talk about it a little, and show off this poster with new title I created.

This is an edit that looks to splice together what I feel are the best portions of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with the best portion of Dial of Destiny in order to create a "hybrid cut" that functions as an alternate universe Indiana Jones 4. The movie takes the Opening Warehouse, Doom Town, FBI interrogation, and firing of Indiana Jones and connects directly to the weary, beaten down, alcoholic, now on the verge of divorce Indy that we see in Dial of Destiny. Obviously there's a time jump there that doesn't explain Indy's Marriage and child, but in an effort to make that a little easier to reconcile I've also shifted the timeline so that the Crystal Skull Warehouse sequence now takes place in 1951.

The movie tells a complete story centrally focused on the "fall of Indiana Jones" seeking to tell a full story about our hero's tragedy tracing his being pushed out by the US government in the 50s, the loss of his job, the impending loss of a wife, and then the late reveal of the loss of the son we never got to know. Leading up to his eventual personal redemption through his connection to Helena and the reunion with Marion.

The new runtime as is now is 2 hour and 10 minutes with credits, with the movie itself cutting to credits at near exactly the 2 hour mark. I think it's a fun, fast pace, but ultimately very emotional story that connects the best bits of two flawed films with a ton of potential into a single movie that I was surprised to find works pretty well when you stitch it all together.
