I built an open-source "Lighthouse for AI" - tells you if ChatGPT and Claude can actually see your website
You know how Lighthouse tells you if Google can find and render your site properly? I wanted that but for AI engines.
npx aeorank yourdomain.com
23 checks, 0-100 score, under 10 seconds, no API keys needed. MIT licensed.
What it actually does: fetches your site the same way AI crawlers would, checks for Schema.org markup, llms.txt, server-rendered content, Q&A formatting, FAQ sections, internal linking structure, robots.txt rules for AI bots, and a bunch more.
I've been running it on everything I can get my hands on - ended up with 11K+ scored domains. Some fun discoveries:
- Average site: 42/100 (most of the web is semi-invisible to AI)
- YC startups: 38/100 (SPAs are an AI visibility killer)
- The entire benchmark dataset is open: CSV files
It also has a GitHub Action so you can gate your deploys on AI visibility score, same way you'd gate on test coverage.
Honestly the hardest part has been getting the criterion weights right. I wrote up all the open questions here if anyone's curious: detailed post
