Haven’t seen anyone install this mod so I thought why not post it on here just to show it and compare it to the original ds lite screens.

I recently found out about ips screens that were just made available for the ds lite and thought why not get one and just try it out to see how well it does. I have installed the IPS screen into an extremerate shell and will use another Ds lite that’s also in an extremerate shell to compare, the other one will be using the stock Ds lite screen so it’ll have a little bit of yellowing on them. I did forget to turn brightness all the way up for the stock screen Ds lite, but in terms of brightness they’re about the same.

I do want to say that while the ips screen does look much nicer and larger and have much better vibrant colors the install for it was certainly not fun and much more other issues with this. Since this is the first ips screen on the market for the ds lite these screens are going for $60 each, so that means if you want a top and bottom ips screen you’re gonna be paying $120 for them. Another annoyance I found is installation with this screen as bottom screen is perfectly fine for installing, but if you’re looking to use an extremerate shell you’ll need to file down or get rid of the bottom screen shell bezel as the screen is too large that it gets covered by the bezels. The top and bottom screen are the same screen so trying to fit it on the top shell there’s gonna be a bunch of space and the top screen is a 2 piece ribbon cable that uses those cheap standard bottom screen to top screen converter ribbon cables, you’ll run into a high chance of just breaking them. Even if you do install it correctly because of the ribbon connector on the top screen you’ll have a bit of a bulging area and a small gap as the ribbon connector is too large as the space there is very small and limited. The screen offers a few “mode” switches which just lowers the brightness and makes the screen black and white, so not much to offer there. Since these are ips screens they consume power like crazy, if you have two installed like I have you’ll only having upmost 2 hours of gameplay before the battery dies and you’ll also need to solder a wire so that it can bypass the ds lites motherboard screen voltages so that the ips screens will be able to work.

For this mod there’s still some uncertainty with it like how it affects the motherboard because of the insane power drain and if there’s long term damage to it. I’ll probably try to test more of it, but it is nice that we do have the option for ips and hopefully more get developed that are at least better and maybe a battery expansion too so you can at least play for a few hours before the battery fully drains.
