Surah Nisa verse 24

I’m sorry, I really cannot find a good explanation of this verse and it’s making me uncomfortable. Couldn’t someone use this verse to justify kidnapping someone and doing what they want with them?? And if Zina is clearly forbidden, how is it that the men were permitted to go with the captured women? Does it just not count as Zina to have relations with a man you’re not married to? And what woman, after having her husband k*led in war would want to sleep with her captor?! I know that there’s a reasonable explanation for this. I just haven’t found it.
