How to use spindown?

I know the theory, but then i found spindown for the first time and got confused. So i used on stapler, and got twisted pair, and just skiped supper (i don't have the other itens between those 2 and i didn't had picked supper). Then i thought, if i use again, i will get glitched crown, because i don't have the itens in between, but on use i got lil portal, even though i have glitched crown unlocked and lil portal id is lower then glitched crown. Can someone explain what happend please
