At the Auction
From the collection of Frederick Rush Innes (1916–2005), a Boston‑born theoretical physicist educated at MIT and the University of Pennsylvania, a WWII U.S. Navy officer present at Pearl Harbor, and a distinguished Cambridge‑based collector whose Asian art holdings were assembled over more than five decades. Innes was a regular client of leading mid‑century dealers, including Yamanaka & Co. and the Yatsuhashi Gallery, and his estate was later the subject of a major single‑owner sale at Grogan & Company (October 4, 2009), noted for its scholarly depth and exceptional quality. Acquired directly from Innes in the 1990s by the present consignor.
