Any film camera recommendations?

Hi everyone! I’m fairly new to film photography. I’ve been using disposable cameras for the past 6 years when I want to take pictures on film. I’ve gotten much better using a disposable camera, but have started to consider purchasing an actual film camera. Does anyone have any recommendations on good film cameras for beginners? I don’t want the fanciest camera, but something I can take good pictures on and learn from.

1. Budget is $500ish US dollars, but willing to splurge
2. I currently use disposable cameras but would like more permanent gear and trustworthy gear that I can become a better photographer on.
3. I intend to shoot mostly people, but also some landscape
4. This is primarily for photography
