Question on Clamperl's evolution

I'm doing my first run with Clamperl and got the Deep Sea Tooth (item for Huntail evo) problem is I wanted to run Gorebyss. If i take the tooth will that block me from getting the scale or can I get both? If I can get both how would the game decide which Pokémon Clamperl would evolve into when the Linking cord is used?
