The Illusionist
( poem inspired by trapdoor by twenty one pilots )
Every day is a masquerade, he puts on a mask to shield his face. The mask is made of different colors, shades and shapes that change as he enters each room.
He calls his illusions magic, a deception that guards the man behind the mirror.
This man with no name, close to dead imprisoned by the wardens in his head.
Like a magician he has his bag of tricks,
He makes his fears disappear, cuts himself in halves to find the pieces that fit.
He shuffles the cards he has been dealt in his life,
each card damning him to a reality
There , he places his hopes, his dreams on the shelf; 52 reasons that restrict him.
For this next act he plans to disappear.
He is now outside the red box and somehow reappears, falling through a trapdoor.
How he does it, I do not know, ignoring the facts of his deception he dares not to reveal .
For a magician never reveals his tricks.
Every night the illusion fades, when he takes off his mask and accepts the struggles he has to face.
Does he deceive or display what he believes the world wants to receive?
Gifting a smile at a passing glance or a laugh for any amusing circumstance.
All to accept a lost dream or faltered self esteem to shoulder the heat of the spotlight’s beam.
