My personal review on RE7 : Biohazard 🏚️👧🏻🧬🦠🧟
May contain some spoilers ⚠️
Alright, I did it, I finally did it. I completed RE7 for the first time, yea yea yea, I know it’s been out for a decade, but I just didn’t like it when I originally tried playing it. Did my views change at all??
Well, for starters, I STILL refuse to accept this game as a full on RE game, sorry not sorry, it’s a FUN game, ngl, it’s pretty scary at times, it has a lot of pros and some cons, but does it fully connect with the RE storyline/universe? I hardly think so, BUT that’s not necessarily a bad thing, I understand the history behind this game now, following the flop of RE6, THIS game brought RE back to it’s roots of survival horror and it did do a great job at that, supplies and ammo scarce, just the way survival horror should be. I guess I’m just a RE purist, whatever that may mean. 🤷🏻♂️
Now, the game is good, I do like what they did with it overall, but I still think it should have been a spinoff of the Resident Evil franchise, like just call it RE : Biohazard, it could have been a stand alone title, in my overtly strong opinion, they didn’t have to add it to the series line of being number 7, but hey that’s just me.
So many positives about this game, good characters (some more than others), GREAT setting, I LOVED the fact that they were in Louisiana and in a dilapidated home full of crazy infected people who want you to “join their family”, cool environments like the house, boat, cave, etc, good music/effects, cool storyline. So I’m not really shitting on this game per se. I absolutely LOVED the ending/ last hour of this game, super cool and I even felt a little sad for some of the characters. Great way to end the game though.
But I did find this game monotonous at times, the same molded monsters but just in slight variations wasn’t enough to keep the game exciting for me. The lack of enemies was a little too boring for my personal taste, that and some “boss battles” we’re better than others. Like wtf happened to Lucas aka Jigsaw ahh?? I guess it’s in the DLC, and why wasn’t Zoe having a longer part in the game and even the sheriff? I wish these characters had slightly longer parts in the game. I know RE loves introducing characters and then killing them off, but these characters just felt like fill-ins when they allegedly were supposed to be major key characters. I wanted to see more character development for these guys.
My biggest gripe of them all, the first person camera, I HATED it for the whole game, Jesus Christ man, I honestly don’t know why all you fans love the FP so much on a RE game, I really don’t, if I’m playing a character with a personality that talks, I want to see more of that character, I want to know that Im playing as them experiencing all this craziness. If not then just keep the character quiet, make me FULLY believe that I’m the lead character, if in first person—-if that makes sense. I just truly don’t see how it works, but hey it was ambitious for Capcom to try a fps so props, and it was the 3rd most successful game in the franchise so I guess I’m the outlier here. 😎
Overall, good game, it had its “shitting in my pants and screaming like a little girl” moments which I love. I swear I almost punched my computer monitor in one moment of the game. Thank god for my great reflexes.
I give this RE a solid 7.5/10
So my personal ratings so far have been
RE2R 10/10
RE4R 9/10
RE3R 8.5/10
RE5 8/10
RE7 7.5/10
I still plan on playing all the originals and including
RE0, RE1R, RE8, RE9, RECV, RER1, and RER2.
Not sure if I should start RE9 or RE8 first, still debating. Also, I want to explore the DLC on RE7, anyway thanks for visiting my Ted-talk. ✌🏻
