Being Invisible..for Most of Life- And Not Falling Down
Honest, I don't feel sad about supposedly "invisible" 65+ yr. woman. Sure, it's insulting to be bypassed. But I've bypassed ALOT for most of my life. Am I a rarity here?
Not great feeling as an older teen and into my 20's. But running parallel to all this, I was also excited doing art, reading books and having super long conversations with female best friends.
My low-income parents did pay for dermatology medication for myself and sister with severe acne (cream, oral acutane), orthodontic braces for another sister and brother. So they did aim for medical treatments for self-esteem. Am grateful for at least. And no employer health care plan covered this. My father was a cook.
If I was/am noticed at all, it was because I was Asian (but born in CAnada) in predominantly white city outside of Toronto. I did win contests for art drawings, some poems as a teen.
I still that's what I'm noticed in room of people and many places these days..just as Asian. Never been cute nor beautiful nor sexy. If I'm remembered, it's for what I've said, done or something I created.
That's ok, here at @67.
