PI fired me outta the blue

Over the past year I have been working semi-independently on a project with my PI. She has been talking about supporting me on my honors thesis since day 1 and we have been talking about my project.

About three weeks ago I had asked her for a LOR for a summer program which she seemed happy in giving (i’m a junior). Two weeks ago i got the flu and had missed out on school and lab. I notified her on this and so for the past week I have been catching up on missing work. Because of this I was late to lab sometimes and would not be able to come for some days. Which I would tell her. She also said that I should be coming in at the same time everyday which is impossible for me and I told her, since I have classes that conflict.

Today she sends me an email saying that she doesn’t think I am fit for the project since it requires extreme consistency (which I was besides these past two weeks) and that it seems I am doing smth over the summer (which she was supportive of the idea in the first place). I just am so lost and so so devastated and hopeless since this was going to be my number 1 activity on my apps and I have almost 0 chance of even being able to do a senior thesis as I cannot find a new lab that would take someone in within a month to run an independent project. I actually just feel hopeless since I lost one of the most valuable part of my pre med journey and I will be applying in less than a year. I lost a LOR and a thesis that was looking forward to writing and working towards.

I als am just confused as to why she let me off so abruptly with no warning or or even mention. Everytime I do ask her about whether I can help she just says she would do it herself, but then says I don’t come enough. I can’t believe I lost a golden opportunity and I don’t even know how I could’ve prevented it.
