Thinking through banking options waiting for PGTA after round 2 - Advice?
Here’s my question: I had a first round in Dec at 39.5 (I have DOR). Husband (43) has some MFI. From 5 eggs, we got 3 blasts. The one Day 5 blast was the lucky euploid. 🙏
We had a second retrieval a couple of weeks ago, and they got 7 mature eggs this time. And 5 blasts (four Day 5s, and one Day 6).
Our insurance policy offers 2+1 smart cycles. Per the policy rules, if we end up w/ 3 euploids in those first two cycles, we can’t open up the third smart cycle without attempting transfer.
So, I’ve been thinking about the options and how this can potentially play out 😂
Scenario 1: If I get less than 2 euploids from this round (waiting on PGTA), which can obviously happen, the third smart cycle automatically opens up, so I jump into another ET. And that’s done, and I don’t have to speculate anymore lol
That third smart cycle opening up would cover 2 additional rounds.
Scenario 2: We end up miraculously with 2 euploids, so we transfer, and if the transfer doesn’t lead to a live birth, and I have less than 3 euploids banked, then, per the policy, the third smart cycle automatically opens up and I can jump into another ET.
Scenario 3: I transfer and it sticks (which would be beautiful and amazing) and leads to a live birth, then we can’t open up that 3rd smart cycle, and I have 2 other euploids to try for a second child if I want later?
My husband is ok with one child. I think I am, too. But the more I think about it, and the more women I talk with, I see that I could change my mind and want a second child later?
So, my questions for you all:
1. How many of you had a live birth with a first transfer?
2. Is it nuts for me to ask them to transfer the lowest graded euploid first, so that if it fails, we can open up that third cycle? (I have a friend who, at 37, got 3 euploids in her first round. They transferred one, which became her son. This year, they transferred the second and the third—#2 failed and the #3 she miscarried. So now she’s 39 going through retrievals again for a second child).
3. Or should I just chill and wait for PGTA and see what happens?
Lol, thank you all in advance
