I, 34F, recently ended a relationship with 45M and I’m struggling with whether I made the right decision.

Here’s the situation:

We started talking in late December 2025 and became official shortly after. He told me he was single and not talking to anyone else. I was open about my past relationships, and he didn’t share much about his.

Later, I was contacted by his ex. She said they were together until January 16, 2026 and that he was still calling her “babe” and talking to her just days before he asked me out. I saw a message from Dec 17 where he called her “babe,” and he asked me out Dec 22. She was also at his house with her kids on December 21 (the day before he asked me out).

In December before he asked me out he was telling her he wanted to marry her, called her his queen and wanted to plan a future together. In January 2026, he said all this stuff to me almost verbatim.

I also found out he has a second phone number he uses for friends/family, and I was only communicating with him through what he says was his shop/business line. I didn’t know he had another number.

When I confronted him, he said he didn’t lie, he just “didn’t think it mattered” to tell me how recent the relationship was or about the other number. He apologized but maintained he wasn’t hiding anything.

I ended it because I felt like I didn’t have the full picture when I chose to move forward and that my trust was broken. He says he loves me and misses me.

My question is:

Did I overreact by ending this, or is it reasonable to expect full transparency at the start of a relationship?
