Men turn blind eye to other men's behavior but then demand to be treated a good in general.

Debate

A lot of men seem to see the world like this: there's a small subset of "bad" men, but almost all are good. So when a woman ends up with (or complains about) a bad one, they think, "There are so many good men out there, something must be wrong with her choice or judgment."

As a woman, I don't see it that way at all.

Look at this subreddit for example. Men regularly post wild, harmful, or outright misogynistic stuff, and it's often upvoted, supported, or at minimum quietly ignored by other men. It happens over and over.

Then a woman posts about it or asks questions, and suddenly a chorus of men appears: "That's not us," "No real man does that," "How dare you generalize," "It's just a tiny minority."

But question is where were those "not the same men"? Were they right there in the same thread, turning a blind eye, stayed silent, or quietly approving? Or they're the ones who posted/liked it and are now gaslighting when called out? Or they weren't around but still feel entitled to declare themselves the authority on men's behavior and shut women down because "they themselves didn't see it"?

All are possibilities, and none of them are good.

This exact pattern plays out everywhere in women's lives. Creepy approaches, unfair treatment at work, harassment, boundary violation, anything problematic happens, other men are mostly silent or complicit in the moment, but the second women name it ("Men do X," "This happens too often"), the defense kicks in: "Those are just bad men," "We're not like that," "Not all men," "There are so many good ones, don't treat us badly over a minority."

Cool. Then where were those "good ones" when it was happening? Where was the real-time pushback? Why does the large, decent majority only show up to defend the group's image after women speak up? Do you think that just watching and doing nothing makes you good?

It's always some vague "other men" doing the bad stuff, but "men aren't like that" overall. If the bad ones are truly such a small minority, where is this overwhelming majority of good men in practice? Why is it always on women to give endless benefit of the doubt, while men get offended by basic caution. They stay silent during the inappropriate moments, and then blame women for generalizing based on what they've actually experienced?

In short what makes you think that majority of men are good, if they only show up to defend their image and nothing else?
