Insurance only covering it till my BMI is 30?
I have United Healthcare My employer offered a weight loss program called Twin and I was excited to join as Ive had a lot of problems with losing weight since developing hypothroidism postpartum. I wasn't sure if I actually wanted to be on a GLP1, I just wanted to lose the 60 pounds I've gained and get back to my happy weight.
So far I like the Twin program, it's been a month and I've lost almost 15 pounds. They put me on Zepbound which I've also come to appreciate. The downside is even though I told the NP my weight loss goals, they said insurance only covers GLP1 if your BMI is 30 or above. I realized after my meeting with the NP at Twin that they put my goal weight down as 163 which would give me a BMI of 29.8. I'm 5'2 so that's still a heavy weight for me. I guess I'm only going to be on Zepbound for the first 30 pounds which is kind of disappointing. I have an appointment this week with the NP so I'm going to find out what my options are for the last 30 pounds as I really would like to have some kind of weight loss assistance for my whole weight loss plan.
Has anyone been through Twin? Is your insurance covering Zepbound for your total weight loss journey? I'm wondering if there's another supplement or medication that would work for me after Zepbound, that's affordable.
