Help with alien mutation on pets

My 2nd time during the weather i got 3 pets alienated, then i went 4 weather events without one getting done, now it is like every other weather i get one pet alienated. Is there any tips or tricks to get the UFO to mutate these pets?? This is taking forever, im wondering if there’s anything i can do besides put 8 non mutated trash pets out. Or is it time to give up and empty my inventory like i see others doing??
