why is ace attorney: phoenix wright so fucking awkward most times?

I've played thru PW;AA since Chapter 6, and really, I gotta say, why are there moments that stuff turn so awkward, either because Phoenix turns it awkward, or because Maya turns it awkward or adds to it?

Also how does the courtroom simp so much for her? Even the possibly 70 year old Judge does the same, literally.1<

Also there are various questionable jokes and stuff on PW:AA, I thought it was a game about crimes, not a game about jokes ;-;
