Parking tips for Cat Power at Roadrunner-Boston (Boston 03/04)
i figured i would share some thoughts on parking for cat power at roadrunner on 03/04 since that area of boston landing can be a total nightmare. it is a cool venue but the logistics of getting in and out are definitely a challenge especially on a weeknight when traffic is already at a peak.
honestly your best move is to look at Prked before you do anything else. it is an app where you can rent out driveways or private garage spots from people living right next to roadrunner. it is way cheaper than the official venue parking and you get to skip the massive line of cars trying to exit the big garages after the show ends. being able to just pull out of a private driveway and hit the road while everyone else is stuck on guest street is a huge win and a much shorter walk.
if you do want to use the standard garages the main one is at 80 guest street right across from the venue entrance. there is also parking at the warrior ice arena and the new balance building at 100 guest street. these are super convenient because they are so close but they are usually the most expensive option often hitting thirty or forty dollars for event rates. the traffic flow inside those garages is also pretty slow so expect to sit in your car for a while once the concert is over because guest street gets completely bottled up.
for street parking you have to be really careful. most of the spots directly around the venue are residential permit only and boston will tow you in a heartbeat. you might find some metered spots if you head further out toward north beacon street or even over by market street but those fill up early with commuters and residents. if you go this route plan for at least a ten to fifteen minute walk and make sure you double check every sign for street cleaning or permit restrictions to avoid a ticket.
another solid strategy is taking the mbta if you can. the boston landing commuter rail station is literally steps away from the venue on the framingham-worcester line. it is way easier than driving but you just have to keep an eye on the mbta schedule so you do not miss the last train out. the green line b branch is also an option if you get off at babcock street or amory street but keep in mind that is a pretty long walk which might not be great if it is cold on 03/04.
try to get to the area early like around 6:00 or 6:30 pm even though the show starts at 8:00 pm. the stretch of guest street gets really congested with people leaving work and others arriving for the show. there are some decent spots to kill time like the bowery bar or railside. getting there early gives you the best chance at finding a spot and avoiding the worst of the mass pike traffic. hope this helps you guys out and enjoy the show.
