Chapter 9: One of the Sefirah
Gray fog... Was it the gray fog that caused the “transmigration” phenomenon? Or rather, was it the master of the gray fog, Mr. Fool?
In the dream, "real" Audrey unconsciously swallowed a mouthful of food.
No, I can't just assume that the “transmigration” phenomenon has occurred. I must not make bold assumptions and carefully verify them...
This is so difficult... Whether it's verifying if this dream corresponds to ancient history, or confirming that Mr. World once lived in a similar setting, neither is easy... Ah, I can first see if Mr. World has experienced two lives. If so, at least the result would be very similar to what “transmigration” brings. And this is very easy to determine from the dream projected by his subconscious.
Audrey thought for a moment, then hypnotized "Student" Audrey to send Zhou Lisha a WeChat message: "Lisha, you're staying at school for the winter break, aren't you? You don't have any plans to go home with your brother for the New Year together?"
Although the two had only met that day, asking about personal life was a bit too soon. However, Audrey's persona was originally sunny and outgoing. Sitting in the same restaurant and watching the siblings interact, it was reasonable for her to make a playful remark out of interest.
Zhou Lisha replied quite promptly:
"Yes. We do plan on going back home together."
"Brother isn't too comfortable with me going back alone..."
Mr. World is truly a good brother who dotes on his sister... "Real" Audrey instructed her other self to type in the chat: "Haha, wouldn't Auntie and Uncle want their daughter to come home early to be with them?"
According to Mr. Star's account, the Moretti's parents had passed away almost ten years ago, which was long before the suspected time of Mr. World's “transmigration”
If Mr. World only developed feelings for everything related to the Moretti's after his “transmigration,” then this certainly wouldn't include "Klein Moretti's" deceased parents. They also wouldn't appear in the dream due to Mr. World's attachment to his relatives. So, at this point, Zhou Lisha would reply: “My parents have passed away...”
Zhou Lisha in the dream replied completely in a different way: "It's fine... My parents don't get time off until New Year's Eve, so even if we go home, they won't be able to pay attention to us."
Still alive? Did I guess wrong? Wait, Mr. Moretti was a soldier, which doesn't fit the typical New Year's Eve holiday for salary earners... Perhaps the parents appearing in this dream are Mr. World's own parents?
Thinking this way, my previous deduction was completely reversed... If Mr. World “transmigrated” to become Klein Moretti, then his subconscious would be more deeply impressed by his original life. And the various things he experienced after “transmigration” would be more likely to merge into his original life in an somewhat illogical way.
Oh, then the name Zhou Mingrui can be explained! This was Mr. World's name before his “transmigration,” so, of course, he would think his name was Zhou Mingrui in the dream, not Klein Moretti, not Gehrman Sparrow... His appearance is also his original appearance. Mr. Star's confusion is solved!
And compared to the overall environment of this dream world, Zhou Lisha's name is clearly a bit strange. This is forcibly inserting Melissa into their family tree... I'd bet their older brother is probably named Zhou Benson? Wait, doesn't that mean Mr. World had no siblings in his previous life?
I didn't even realize such an obvious anomaly before... Sigh, my attention was all focused on the peculiarity of this dream world itself...
While thinking about these things, Audrey, with professional poise, instructed her other self to reply to the message, bringing the conversation to a reasonable close: "Adults work-life is truly hard, huh? I was still complaining about my mom and dad urging me to come home, your answer has taught me a lesson..."
Zhou Lisha: "Mm-hmm! It's better to go home early and reunite with your parents!"
"Real" Audrey's mind was completely elsewhere. She noticed another thing:
The name "Zhou Mingrui" is clearly very strange in the real world. Even in the oldest Second Epoch I know of, no humans or Beyonder creatures had such a name... On the other hand, Emperor Roselle's real name, "Huang Tao," clearly corresponds to "Zhou Mingrui" and both fit the naming style of people in this dream...
Ah... Is Mr. World really a “transmigrator” like Emperor Roselle? Corresponding to what Mr. World later said about his long period of slumber, did a society similar to this dream really exist in distant history, perhaps even before the Second Epoch?
What I saw wasn't a wonderful fantasy, or an unknown secret, but a history that truly existed?
Audrey couldn't help but look back at Zhou Mingrui, gaining a new understanding of the mystery of his experiences.
Huh, why is Mr. World suddenly looking at his phone? He must be influenced by his sister...
Audrey thought distractedly, then suddenly sensed that "Student" Audrey had opened QQ.
A new message was prominently displayed there:
"Are you still at the Restaurant?"
The message was a private chat, and the note showed "World"
Eh? Wait! Wait! Miss Audrey, please put down your phone!
"Student" Audrey had already looked up, just in time to see Zhou Mingrui looking around. Their eyes met, and they seemed to understand something instantly, a look of disbelief on their faces.
"Real" Audrey desperately covered her eyes.
Audrey, you idiot!
...
At Fors's home, Audrey's main body closed her eyes, silently cursing herself as an “idiot.”
She opened her eyes and looked at Fors, saying with a half-smile, half-sigh: "This page is the most significant diary page I've obtained so far!"
"That's good..." Fors was still immersed in worry, fearing that her diary would be useless and insufficient to repay Mr. Fool's previous protection of her.
Audrey reached out to pet Susie, while saying to Fors:
"Fors, you've really helped me a lot... What reward do you want? Pounds? Or is there anything I can do for you?"
I don't need any help... Since Mr. Fool went into slumber, my life has been calm and uneventful...
Audrey clearly guessed this, and asked with a smile: "How is your potion digestion going? And Mr. Sparrow's biography?"
Hmm... The first half of Gehrman Sparrow's biography sold surprisingly well, so there's nothing I need help with... People really do like stories of cool adventurers... Uh, I plan to add some romantic elements to the unreleased second half, I hope Mr. World won't be angry when he finds out... It's all to increase the biography's sales...
The key to digesting the Secrets Sorcerer potion lies in discovering secrets, keeping secrets, and creating secrets. Miss Audrey suddenly gained the ability to decipher Roselle's diary, so she must have acquired some secret knowledge... But the more you know, the more dangerous it is. I'd rather not learn new knowledge and just rely on keeping what I already know and creating secret environments to digest the potion...
Uh, the apocalypse is coming, shouldn't I try to advance my Sequence... But becoming a Wanderer means contacting the Cosmos, and even an existence like Mr. Door can be corrupted... Being a Demigod should be enough, right?
Fors weighed her options repeatedly and decided to keep her life as it was: "I'm quite satisfied with the progress of these two matters. How about... how about you owe me for now?"
"Of course, that's entirely up to you." Audrey carefully made a mental note of this, just in case the 'lazy' Fors forgot to collect her debt. She smiled apologetically:
"Actually, I still have one more thing I'd like to ask for your help with. I want to forge several blueprints and have them look like Emperor Roselle's manuscripts. It would be also nice if those manuscripts won't be discovered by Beyonders below Demigod level. Do you know anything about this?"
Isn't this creating secrets? I'm good at this! "Besides imitating old paper, you'll also need anti-divination and other mystical treatments. You can leave this to me. This will help me digest my potion, so there's no need for payment."
It was solved so simply? Without the gray fog and its conveniences, I'm not completely useless after all...
"Then could you also handle the process of aging the paper and it's fabricated origins? I really don't want it to point towards me in anyway; if someone traces it, it might involve my family..."
No problem. After all, you have to go all the way with the concept of "creating secrets", and digestion of the potion also takes time, so for a while, it will be only me knowing about these blueprints... Fors agreed: "Just send me the blueprints directly."
Audrey nodded, pulled out a blank sheet of paper, and started drawing directly.
She started drawing directly...
Fors watched, her mouth slowly dropping open...
...
After visiting Fors, Audrey directly traveled through the subconscious sea and arrived at Pinster Street 7.
As soon as she revealed herself, a rat scurried out from the bushes. Audrey vigilantly looked left and right, then crouched down by the bushes.
The rat stood on its hind legs and spoke: "He went to the Night Church."
"Mr. Zoroast, I've come to visit you."
The rat nodded, then quickly fell dead to the ground. After a while, the door of Pinster Street 7 opened.
"Please come in."
The two exchanged pleasantries and took their seats. Pallez leaned forward slightly, hands on his knees, and asked: "What can I do for you?"
I feel like "Old Man" Pallez is a bit on guard... Hmm, from his previous reactions, he seems to be hiding a secret, perhaps worried that I'll find clues...
Audrey had no intention of digging into others' secrets and respectfully asked: "I'd like to ask you a few questions. Do I need to pay a price for this?"
"You may ask first. If it's not particularly valuable information, I'm happy to answer."
Audrey smiled with delight: "Thank you for your generosity."
"My first question is, what do you know about the gray fog?"
Pallez couldn't help but stare at her for a moment before chuckling and saying: "The gray fog is also called Sefirah Castle, one of the nine Sefirah left by the Original Creator. It points to the Seer, Marauder, and Apprentice Pathways, representing power beyond Sequence."
Beyond Sequence? Mr. Fool is indeed an existence beyond Sequence! Was he the master of Sefirah Castle in ancient times?
Audrey tentatively asked: "You are an Angel of the Marauder Pathway, do you have any sense of the gray fog? Where is it? What kind of changes has it undergone?"
"If you're referring only to those grayish-white mists, then it has always been at the very top of the Spirit World, ancient and unchanging; if you're referring to Sefirah Castle, the place where you gather, then it is completely illusory, with no specific location. In my previous memories, apart from a vague connection I sensed at the moment I advanced to an Angel, I never detected the appearance of Sefirah Castle otherwise."
"Until one day in 1350, it suddenly appeared above everyone's heads."
-----------------------------------------------------
Chapter 10: So Many Questions
1350... What major event closely related to Mr. Fool happened that year? A War of Gods? George III’s failed attempt at becoming a god? Uh, maybe it’s something I don’t know about. Mr. Fool wouldn’t tell us everything.
Audrey didn’t dwell on the matter. She brought up the question mainly because she suspected the gray fog was where Mr. World and Emperor Rosellee slumbered. If so, their return from the gray fog to reality might leave some traces. However, since "Old Man" Pallez hadn’t sensed Sefirah Castle, the secrecy of the gray fog, or rather, Sefirah Castle, clearly exceeded her imagination.
This isn’t important for awakening Mr. World; it’s just to satisfy my curiosity...
Because Pallez’s detailed answers earlier made Audrey feel a sense of friendliness, she relaxed a bit and said, “My second question is, what is the attitude of the great existences towards Mr. Fool being contaminated?”
None of these are simple questions... Pallez chuckled, “The more you know about the contamination from the Original Creator, the easier it is to be eroded. Are you sure you want to know the answer?”
So dangerous... Uh, knowledge about transcending Sequence is also like this... This is the main crux of the Beyonder world...
Audrey didn’t think there was anything to hesitate about: “I’ve found traces of various existences appearing frequently in Mr. Fool’s dreams. Uh, I’m more inclined to believe that the dream we enter is actually Mr. Fool’s dream, Mr. World just happens to be in it.”
Sigh... You even know this. Will you also try to find your Mr. Fool in dreams in the future? Pallez quickly diverted his attention, focusing on Audrey’s words.
— In front of a Spectator, he didn’t dare to think too much about sensitive issues.
“According to my observations in the dream, all the existences are secretly interfering with Mr. Fool’s dreams. If I can’t grasp their attitudes, manipulating the dream will become impossible, and our plan to awaken Mr. World will be difficult to achieve.”
Pallez raised his eyebrows, “You are very willing to dedicate yourself to the Fool...”
Audrey smiled shyly, “Unlike the other members of the Tarot Club, without Mr. Fool, I might not have even embarked on the Beyonder Pathway. My journey to this day is all thanks to Mr. Fool’s grace.”
She praised Mr. Fool very earnestly, then continued:
“Besides, I also genuinely want to awaken Mr. World. His guidance has greatly helped me grow from an innocent and ignorant girl to who I am today.”
And because I serve as Mr. World’s Psychiatrist, I have a deeper understanding of his inner world. This makes me aware of his pain and his gentleness, making me irresistibly want to help him!
Your words make me feel like your Mr. Fool tricked an innocent and ignorant girl, and I am now his accomplice... Thankfully, he is already the true Fool, otherwise, I really couldn’t bring myself to do it...
Pallez nodded slightly and began his explanation:
“The Original Creator is the amalgamation of all symbols, a collection of Beyonder characteristics, and thus inherently possesses strong tendencies for division and aggregation. After the true Original Creator awakened, he should have split into many personalities, corresponding to different Beyonder Pathways. The primal will reviving within the Fool corresponds to the three Beyonder Pathways related to Sefirah Castle.”
“Because the Primordial One has a tendency to aggregate, he will instinctively want to collect high-Sequence Beyonder characteristics of the corresponding Pathways. Therefore, high-Sequence Beyonders of the Seer, Marauder, and Apprentice Pathways are the ones who least wish for him to replace the Fool and control Sefirah Castle.”
“Is that why Amon, while toying with us in the dream, didn’t launch any substantial attacks?”
“Exactly. Of course, for Amon, it’s not that absolute. Perhaps he finds deceiving the Primordial One and evading his pursuit to be a very stimulating experience, allowing certain things to develop at times to satisfy his twisted sense of humor.”
Audrey nodded. When dealing with an existence like Amon, always remaining vigilant is the safest decision. Even if they are on the same side, he cannot be easily trusted.
“What about the other existences? If Mr. Fool is completely contaminated by the Primordial One, what impact will that have on them?”
“This involves the origin of the Beyonder Pathways. Among the twenty-two Beyonder Pathways, sixteen come directly from the Original Creator, and the remaining six come from the Cosmos. I think you should know which ones these are. For the former sixteen, the awakening of the primal will within the Fool might lead to an enhanced stress response in the primal will corresponding to their Pathways.”
“So, most existences don’t want the Primordial One’s will to win, and therefore might offer some help in their own ways?” Audrey thought for a moment and said, “And this would be even more true for existences who were once eroded by the Primordial One’s will and could only avoid contamination by resurrecting, right?”
During that dream battle in East Chester County, the Mind Dragon Eir Hogg once said to Hermes, who appeared as a white rabbit:
“Adam isn’t necessarily Adam...”
After successively recalling what Dark Angel Sasrir said, “The Primordial One is awakening within me,” then Adam’s near-killing of Mr. World, and Amon’s tone in the dream earlier, Audrey ruled out the possibility that Adam was the Original Creator and confirmed that Adam was the resurrected Ancient Sun God.
Hearing her subtle reference, Pallez couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows, “You even know about his resurrection...” Then he suddenly realized, “He resurrected to escape the Primordial One’s erosion... I didn’t even know about this. That makes much more sense...”
He thought for a moment and explained, “Theoretically, yes, but it’s not that simple. To reclaim the authorities of Tyrant, Sun, and White Towern, he might try to prevent the Fool from awakening too early and being swayed by these three true gods, thus standing in opposition to him. After all, they have already fought too many times because of Amon.”
So that’s how it is. It seems Amon’s brother’s arrangements have unfathomable intentions...
“Then the same situation should be happening with other Pathways?”
“Yes, for example, the struggle between the two Snakes of Fate, Ouroboros the ‘Tail-Swallower,’ and the Speaker of the Life School of Thought for Sequence 0.”
Snakes of Fate? Audrey immediately recalled the silver-white giant snake coiling around the black spire in the dream.
So the Silver Angel under Mr. Fool is the Speaker of the Life School of Thought? Did Mr. Fool revive so early? Or did that Speaker defect to Mr. Fool to increase his chances of victory?
Alas... The interests and struggles of all great existences are inseparable from the Beyonder Pathways...
“So for the remaining six Pathways, whether Mr. Fool wins has no impact on them?”
“That’s true. However, some existences have a close cooperative relationship with the Fool and definitely lean towards the Fool achieving victory. Additionally, they all certainly hope that the Fool’s struggle with the Primordial One will yield results quickly, so that the master of Sefirah Castle awakens and helps them fight against the corruption from the Cosmos.”
So that’s what it’s all about...
“Your answers have given me some new ideas. Hmm, I have a third question, which is a continuation of the previous one: For someone like me, who hasn’t reached Sequence 2 and cannot understand knowledge beyond Sequence, do you have any warnings?”
“You really aren’t afraid of death...” Pallez shook his head helplessly and said, “Similar Beyonder Pathways are inevitable enemies, but hostility can be somewhat mitigated by lowering one’s rank.”
Audrey nodded thoughtfully, connecting this to the story of the Ancient Sun God.
Seeing her reaction, Pallez quickly added, “Don’t think too much. The more you know, the more dangerous it is. You wouldn’t want the awakening plan to spiral out of control and collapse before it even begins, would you?”
“I understand. Thank you for the warning.”
Audrey shifted her focus from that matter: “Then do you know why Mr. World and Mr. Fool were contaminated and fell into slumber together?”
This question again... Facing a Spectator, Pallez dared not use the same words he used to evade Leonard back then: “I don’t know the specific reason. But I think he must have exchanged certain characteristics with the Fool, and the price was to form some unique connection with him.”
He’s lying... Is this why "Old Man" Pallez is wary of me? But what is there to lie about...
Did he accidentally glimpse Mr. Fool’s secret and is afraid of revealing it in front of me, a Spectator?
If you just don’t say anything, I won’t press you... I don’t want to pry into Mr. Fool’s secrets. If he wants us to know, Mr. Fool will tell us!
Audrey skipped this matter entirely, pretending to smile shyly: “Ahem, I have a fifth question: Is Mr. Fool’s resistance to corruption through slumber due to the Evernight Goddess’s help?”
Why do I feel like my lie was discovered... But she skipped the question entirely, so she probably doesn’t want to press for an answer. I’ll just pretend nothing happened then...
To alleviate the fear and awkwardness of an impending secret exposure, Pallez praised her unreservedly: “You truly have a gift for mysticism!”
At the same time, the instinctive reaction brought on by mental pressure made him involuntarily compare Audrey to Leonard in his mind.
Careful and intelligent, quick to learn, and most importantly, considerate and polite... If I had possessed her back then, I might have fully recovered long ago, gained the strength to contend with Amon, and wouldn’t have been forced to lower my rank. Even comparing this girl and that poet of them might be an insult to her...
Hearing such direct praise, Audrey smiled shyly, pursing her lips: “The Goddess seems to have always had a very close relationship with Mr. Fool?”
Heh heh, your Mr. Fool was probably a Blessed of the Evernight Goddess...
Pallez indirectly affirmed: “If you find yourself in an emergency in the dream and must seek aid, you can try praying to the Evernight Goddess for her help. Of course, this will certainly come at a price.”
There’s even this benefit... I was so devout in my faith to the Goddess, and getting help from the Goddess was something I never even dared to imagine... This is all the grace brought by Mr. Fool! Praise Mr. Fool!
Audrey, as usual, worshipped Mr. Fool for a moment before continuing to ask: “Then will there ever be a day when the Night Church turns around and restrains us? For example, Mr. World’s sister is a Beyonder who believes in the Goddess. I want to influence her to establish a connection with the Church, so that Mr. World’s family can receive protection. Will this become a point where the Night Church can manipulate us in the future?”
“Such small matters won’t be a problem, as long as the principle of equivalent exchange is followed.”
That puts my mind at ease. I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, but I was afraid of some hidden danger I didn’t know about, which might instead bring danger to the Moretti family. Audrey thought seriously for a moment and then spoke her last point:
“I have a fairly definite guess about the origin of that dream world. Would you like to hear it?”
Pallez raised an eyebrow and sat up straight.
