Is there any way to complete Angry face quest if you get Infestation weather or am i doomed?

Infestation makes it so all non-tiny units explode into maggots or flies when they die and i need to kill the cat with angry face but if i do the body will explode and lose the cat and the sidequest item. Is there any way to save this or am i doomed? If i kill the cat last perhaps (doesnt seem that would work but i cant come up with anyhting else)
