Selling car privately - What do I need to look out for?
Hi all,
I’m on here to look for some advice. I am selling a car privately for approximately £11k. A person that’s interested in the car is travelling from a distance to come and see the car and has agreed to purchase right there and then if all seems okay with the car. He is purchasing for his wife.
He has mentioned that his wife will not be present at the time of purchase and he will be purchasing on her behalf. I have requested that payment is made by bank transfer, that his drivers license is present, and his wife’s drivers license as well. He has said once he has looked at the car and it seems okay, then he will call his wife to make a bank transfer to me, and then once payment has been confirmed on our side, all the paperwork can be filled out on DVLA transfer ownership website.
My question is: does anything seem off about this transaction? Is there anything for me to look out for? Should I avoid his wife transferring me the money without her being present?
I ask this because although in theory bank transfers cannot be reversed, I have actually been successful with a chargeback with the bank previously for a separate transaction where I was scammed by a person.
Please advise.
