Rash from brush

Can brushing too hard cause a rash on my face? I used to use a Proras soap for lathering which I lathered in the tub it came in and never had any issues. Last week I bought some Brion cream/paste for shaving (it is made in Serbia) and I found it is harder to make a lather out of it in a bowl, so I spread the paste on my face and lathered it up with the brush. I shaved with it once last week, there were no issues other than a slight burn from chafing on one of my cheeks. I shaved once again a few days ago and there were no issues. I then shaved with it yesterday, my face was flaming hot after the shaving and it burned when I touched my cheeks, it was also really red. I woke up this morning and went to the bathroom and when I looked in the mirror my face looked a bit rashy on my left cheek. It is really red and there are some scabs on it. Was this caused by the brush or is it something else?
