Development at the cost of diverse cultures anywhere in the world is not good.
Don't get me wrong. Tech is good in many ways. But there are two sides to the coin. Radical change is not what we were built for from an evolutionary perspective. This is only the logically understood side of the problem.
From a human perspective, losing our language, our ways of life and our culture to development is incredibly painful in irreversible ways. But the modern and rather culturally homogenised world doesn't seem to have learnt from its mistakes. We can't just translate other cultures into English. The way a word sounds, the way the grammar of a language is built- including every quirk of it all, that's all part of the culture's knowledge and the emotions it holds.
A culture whose majority is in a dire economic situation is very likely to favour development. Humans after all need to survive. But there are once desperate people who traded their old ways for development and years later, woke up in inexplicable agony.
Now, I'm not against tech or learning. I absolutely appreciate the importance of these pursuits. But in my opinion, tech shouldn't go too fast (nor should it stall). We should let people and society as a whole learn at their own pace.
