Consistent Emotional Breakdowns
My daughter is 2 years & 3 months. She is very verbal, perceptive & smart. She has never been an easy child & I have come to accept that this is just her temperament & I do my best to meet her where she’s at. Lately this has been a huge struggle.
She is incredibly sensitive, the breakdowns feel like they are happening 5x an hour on our bad days. I’m hitting a wall on how to handle it. I know the difference between her cries (crying to try to get something vs genuine distress/upset). 90% of these breakdowns are the emotional distress cries. They are all over seemingly small issues (having to wait a min for me to fill her cup, she dropped a toy she’s playing with, needing to have her hair brushed).
She is also extremely attached to me (mom) and wants to be held more often than I expected for this age.
We always stay as calm as possible, never yell, and try to help co-regulate her but we are exhausted. It is impacting my mental health & our marriage as the house always feels on edge.
I have had concerns about autism or sensory issues since she was an infant, however the pediatrician has consistently identified her behavior as normal & she is not delayed (rather advanced in some areas). Where do I go from here?
I agree the behaviors are normal but the frequency & intensity seem abnormal.
Any advice? Thanks!
