AITAH for what happened between me and my friend last night

We are both in our early 30s. My friend lives about 10-15 minutes away.

They decided to come to my house to drink - or rather, we drank at the bar around the corner from me. Beforehand, my friend asked if they should Uber, but then talked themselves out of it; this was when I told them, via text, that I had plans the next day so wouldn't be drinking too heavily or going too late. They agreed, said they'd drive to my house and then drive themselves home.

We started drinking at the bar at around 6. Had 3 drinks each, left at 9, went back to my house and smoked a little weed. My friend smoked much more than me and continued smoking after I took a single bong rip. I didn't smoke at all after 10.

I will admit, my friend was a lot more intoxicated than I expected they'd get, kept talking over me, etc. At one point they said they were going to go smoke more and I told them they shouldn't if they were going to drive home. They immediately got defensive like "are you kicking me out", "I didn't realize there was a time limit on how long we could hang out". I simply told them I wanted them to be safe driving and reminded them I had morning plans today.

Around 11:30 they told me they were feeling very intoxicated and that they weren't sure they'd be able to drive "for at least another hour". I was sort of annoyed by this and told them that I had to go to bed soon. By this point I was pretty well sobered up and my sober roommate was home, we both offered my friend a ride home and they said no. They didn't want to leave their car here. They also refused to get an Uber, and they refused the idea of my roommate driving their car home while I drove them home in mine. With no other options, I told them they could stay til they sobered up or they could sleep on my couch, but that I was going to bed.

My friend immediately got very upset, started crying, and wanted to drive themselves home right away because they thought I was mad at them. My roommate would not let them leave. This turned into a shouting match between me and my friend, who was accepting none of the options to safely get home and was refusing to lay down and rest. I threatened to call the police if they tried to drive, which turned the entire thing completely hostile. I ended up bringing my friend to sleep at the house of a mutual friend who lives nearby who was still awake and gave permission for them to crash there.

Was I short, snappy, and irritated with my friend? Yes. Did I yell at them and call them irresponsible? Yes. But I don't think I didn't anything wrong in needing to go to bed when I needed to go to bed. I even have text receipts of me telling them this was not going to be a late night thing, but I tried to be as accommodating as possible to let them sleep over and be safe, but they were refusing to settle down and let me and my roommate sleep, which is why I texted the mutual 3rd friend.
