Ed breaks
Hi everyone 😊
Quick background regarding me . I am a Health Care Assistant who works at A&E . I have also decided to only work night shifts as the politics of day shift kill me ! I’m not complaining in any way as I love working nights and love the ED , and I’m also about to start studding nursing 🥳 at a late age of 34 😵💫!
Any way cutting to the point…
I had an idea 💡… At my hospital there is quite few of my colleagues that sleep during the 1h break. It is sometimes hard to find a space to crash anywhere (we only have 2 sofas in the break room ). Some would go to minor injuries clinic when it gets less busy and go on the trolley there and some would go and sleep in there cars ! now as you can all imagine it’s cold during winter times and not very comfortable. I myself have done this plenty of times . Brought a pillow and blankets from home to make it nicer for myself.
As far as I know we are not permitted to leave the hospital, we should not be sleeping on the trolleys or in any pt areas . So if everyone respects the rules there would be no napping in my eyes 😭.
I have had an idea of maybe putting up few porter cabins or camper vans or some sort or temporary moveable building/vehicle (I don’t know what would be allowed so need more thought put in to it ) with bunk beads in them and pillows so workers could go in and use the space just for sleeping purposes.
there would be a booking system and everyone can book there time slots on an app of sort. I understand we always running late but those are fine details . I could ask for a monthly fee thats Cheep enough and so it covers the cost of my rental fee for the car park space as that’s where it would have to be placed .
what do you guys think ?
I thought I would throw the idea out to the public and ask first if this might be something nurses , doctors and health care workers could be interested in ?
personally being tired and wanting a nap and not being able to find one in ED is the worse thing!
I do have a van now so I can speed over 3 seats and I’m comfortable as it almost feels like a small bunk bead .
any way I would be very grateful for any opinions you might have 😊
And keep up the amazing work ❤️
