I want my own car
Hi. First time here. Wondering if I'm wrong in my thinking. Of course this is from my perspective so I welcome skepticism. Also this a very first world problem. I know that.
My wife and I have 2 cars. A Corvette and a mid size EV SUV (luxury brand). The Corvette is basically not drivable where I live for 5 months of the year and we won't take it places with close parking or bad roads. It's not practical. We have a kid that's 3 and needs a car seat for the next few years. We combine our salaries into shared accounts. We recently gave ourselves each $500/mo allowance for non-necessary stuff so spending is fair. I work at home 100%. She works at work most days. She works off schedule frequently. She often stays late for work and for social purposes. I don't get out much. Partly because she basically gets first dibs on the car. That's not a thing. She makes plans and I don't have friends capable of sticking to plans weeks in advance, and I historically prefer to go out on a whim. Anyway, we agree that we should have a second real car after a little bit of convincing. Since it took some convincing, I looked for something cheap. I found a car that I've kind of always wanted. 440/mo lease after rolling in taxes and the down payment, so no money upfront. It's about the cheapest I could find and it happens to be a car I really want and it's very practical except it is a little meh on gas. The catch is that it's manual. She refuses to learn and says we can't get it because she can't drive it. She likes the SUV a lot but I think has a concern that we'll forget to charge it one day and she'll be stuck without battery and can't use the other car. She also drives the Corvette way more than me and she loves it. So I said fine I'll put half m my allowance in. You'll have the nice car and I'll have this car. She'll be driving the other cars mostly anyway. She won't budge. The unspoken part is that I am looking for sort of a sanctuary in this car. I don't feel like I have any autonomy so I want it to be my car. And I want a clean car. She's not great about that all the time. So am I unreasonable for being upset about being vetoed on this car
