Unlinking weight, healthy BMI and goal body

Question

Been on MJ more than a year now, 23kg down. My aim is to get to 61kg as an arbitrary measure for healthy BMI in my ethnicity, but have been toying with aiming for 59kg or even 55kg. Chatted with my mum recently and she felt I really ought not to go down below 60kg. I respect her thoughts as she knows me well but I think it’s all arbitrary. She rightfully pointed out I originally said 63kg as a target and moved it down to 61kg and I was clearly going to move it again.

The truth is I’m much happier in my body now than I was a year ago, and am probably around 26% body fat. But do I look in the mirror and think I can continue recomping? Yes absolutely. The trouble comes from using weight as a quantifiable goal whereas the goal of “being satisfied with your body” is a much more difficult thing to define for me. I keep thinking I will know it when I see it.

Having never been particularly sporty and spending most of my life wanting to just be thinner, I think I am struggling with the concept of a “fitness goal”. I do have them but they are arbitrary “improve cardiovascular health”, “exercise regularly”. I find the gym and cardio both so frightfully dull it’s hard to set a target I’m willing to follow and give up Pilates time for.

I also don’t think it helps that reordering MJ is all centred around weight.

Any advice or thoughts?
