How do you become friends again after breaking up?

Several days ago my girlfriend and I broke up due to a mix of external factors. We’re both girls, pretty young, and we dated for almost 5 months. We want more than anything to stay friends but are trying to figure out how to navigate that. We know about the wlw stereotype of staying friends and that it’s a very real possibility to, but most of the posts I see on Reddit about exes staying friends are directed towards hetero people. The general consensus on such posts is wait 3 months-a year and either slowly enter in each others lives or never talk again. Saying that we do NOT want to do that is an understatement because we both mean a lot to each other and we’re both an important part of each others lives. The people we would consider our best friends (besides one another) are different but there’s a lot of overlap between our general friend group. We know that staying friends post-breakup works for most queer people, especially sapphics, so we’re trying to figure out how to do so ourselves while also taking something from the general advice of how to navigate exes. Like, this is a popular phenomenon so I want to follow that advice but we’re a different demographic than most people who follow this advice. Other gay people, how do you do it!!! What’s the process yall took to become friends again? Do we wait a week? Do we immediately g back into it? I don’t know!
